I'm going to cut right to the chase on this one.
Despite what you may have been told, your vulnerability is your most powerful strength. Think about it. To stand tall in your skin, with your shoulders back and head held high, warts and imperfections on display, takes real cahunas. It takes massive courage. But the rewards are equally massive.
It makes little difference whether you're an entrepreneur or a professional woman, vulnerability is queen.
Here's the cold, hard truth. Only when you're being you - really you - can you actually succeed. And to be really you, you're going to have to be vulnerable. And that takes guts, my friends. It goes against so much of what we're told: "Don't show your flaws", "Show them who's boss", "Stay strong", "Control your emotions", "Stick to the script", the list is endless.
But something magical happens when we let down the guard, show up, and let people see us for who we truly are. Whether you're speaking on stage, leading a workshop, motivating your team, selling to a customer or client, the most effective way to do it - in fact, the only way to do it - is completely, unapologetically, as yourself. When you're real, people trust you. Because humans are emotional, feeling creatures, they can sense when you're full of it and when you're being genuine. And they'll trust you only when they feel you're being genuine. And when people trust you, they'll buy from you, work with you, and follow you to the ends of the earth.
This 'vulnerability thing' raises its head in both the entrepreneurial world and the corporate world. Without vulnerability, the talented, brilliant entrepreneur tries to replicate another's success, use tools that work for others but not for them, and spend far too much money trying to 'crack the code' when the code is right there inside them! In the corporate world, I see brilliant people trying to 'fit the mold', conform, never show emotion, and for what? They end up stressed, frustrated, and unable to lead with any kind of passion, which means they can't lead at all!
Vulnerability - showing up as you - has always been the key to success. But now more than ever, we crave it. There's so much superficial crap in the world that we're craving any kind of genuine connection and we glue ourselves to it like a limpet to a rock.
If you want to lead a tribe, succeed on a whole new level, and blast your goals out of the water, you're going to have to get up close and personal with yourself; warts and all. Because know this: This world needs real people. It needs real, genuine, rock-solid people who are prepared to show up no matter what, roll up their sleeves, get their hands dirty, and get down in the trenches with the rest of us.
You already have absolutely everything you need to succeed. It's right there inside you. Let it out!
